Product Information
This was my first introduction to Tibor Fischer and he soon became one of my favourite writers. Fischer seems to be a master of snappy titles and the stories in this collection are no exception; 'Portrait of the Artist as a Foaming Deathmonger' 'Then They Say You're Drunk,' 'We Ate the Chef,' 'Ice Tonight in The Hearts of Young Visitors, 'BookCruncher,' 'I Like Being Killed,' and 'Fifty Uslessnesses.' Each story fully lives up to the appeal of it's title and hits the mark with humour ranging from the dark and subtle, to embarrass-yourself-on-the-bus laughter. Fischer also makes room for a serious and thought provoking point or two;The shortest story here 'Ice Tonight...,'is also the most serious.
For me the standout story is 'Then They Say You're Drunk' a hilarious day in the life of a South London solicitor and which has never lost it's ability to make me laugh each time I've read it.
