Product Information
On a warm spring evening Adam Kindred makes a mistake, a simple error but he loses literally everything, from his credit cards to his job and home. His struggle to recover his life sends him across London, now an unfamiliar and threatening city. If Adam is to survive he'll have to evade the pursuit of both the police and a hitman, and also learn a few lessons about what really makes him the man he is.
Beneath the surface of a 'fugitive' style thriller William Boyd has carefully dissected modern life, dismantling the paraphernalia that has become so bound up with individual identity. Losing everything that you think makes you who you are is a nightmare scenario and it's very easy to identify with Adam Kindred and his plight. Boyd's writing is intensely atmospheric with a real sense of looming menace - like a thunderstorm in the air - and this is a fantastic and pacy read. Hopefully it won't make us all paranoid, forever looking over our shoulders, but do be careful if you strike up a conversation with a stranger in a quiet restaurant.
