Who are we to argue with the good people of the Faroe Islands who voted this wonderful black comedy as the greatest Faroese novel of the 20th century? When an old man gets carried away at an auction and winds up with more whale meat than he can eat and a debt he cannot possibly repay he enlists the help of his wife and sons. All does not go well. Worth reading if only so that you can be the only one of your friends to have read a book from the Faroe Islands.
