Product Information
Chris Roberts is a writer, librarian and London tour guide with a back catalogue of projects that seemed like a good idea at the time. These include a musical about Margaret Thatcher a slumber offsetting programme for those too busy to sleep properly and the Evening Standard Headline Generator. He’s written books on the history of nursery rhymes, London’s bridges and lost English. He also edits the 21st century penny dreadful One Eye Grey which resets old London folktales in the present day. It was whilst doing research for One Eye Grey that the idea for Football Voodoo came about. In a room above a pub Holborn a witch explained how she prepared for a ritual by focusing her mind, donning sacred robes, kissing a symbol and then entering a sacred marked off space.
For some reason the image of Wayne Rooney kissing the Newton Heath crest at Goodison popped into his mind and so began a chain of thought that led to the book. How he managed to mentally jump from a flame headed wiccan in Holborn to a talented lad from Liverpool 11 with a low centre of gravity is something that he claims he’ll let psychologists work out if he ever make enough money to afford proper psychiatric care.
